I am a dancer, choreographer, teacher, art maker and a researcher who values deep exploration and creativity in dance. Connected to multiple traditions and cultures in Nepal, I investigate my lived experiences and how they inform my dancing body. Acknowledging my eight years of dance exchange on the land of Dakota and Ojibwe peoples, I continue to question and expand my dance practice by building relationship with peoples and the environment that contain my practice. I place myself in the world of contemporary dance as forms and traditions such as dhimey naach (Newari folk dance), hip hop, house, salsa, bachata, yorchhā, improvisation, and jazz are my lived and learned dance knowledges that make my dancing body a container of intersections.
My current research as a dance artist is driven by the lived experiences in our dancing bodies. I explore with improvisations based on imageries, memories, sounds, sensations, and ancestral knowledge. I lean towards working with an ensemble of dancers and collaborating with interdisciplinary artists in sound, lighting, poetry, acting and social activism. I offer my personal experiences with dancers and create space for them to explore their own lived and learned experiences. Each dancer has their own entrances and presence to any creative process. I value the creative process as much as the outcome of performance or presentation. I use dance making as a process to question, take risks, exchange, and build relationships.
I am moving forward in dance by honoring multiplicities in my body and creating space for others to explore their own dancing bodies. I am committed to studying dance and dance cultures, researching dance as it exists in the global context and sharing my research through dance-making.
